A pragmatic approach to the analysis of the work "Tale of Igor's Campaign"

The purpose of this paper is to make a pragmatic analysis of the work of "Tale of Igor's Campaign". The analysis of the literal translation by D.S. Likhachov is performed. The work is considered as a discourse in the framework of the theory of speech acts of J. Searle. Exactly herein lies the newness and the relevance of the research. Speech acts that are used in this work are determined. This approach to the analysis of this work makes it possible to identify the communicative blocks of the text and comprehend the intentions of the author, who by changing the communicative strategy has an impact on the recipients. Moreover, illocutionary purpose of speech of other characters in this work is determined. The statistics on types of speech acts of this work are given. The findings could be useful in translating this work into other languages and for teaching purposes for a foreign audience.
