Duties of Editors
-
Decision Making: Editors have complete responsibility and authority to accept or reject submissions based on the journal's editorial policies.
-
Fair Play: Editorial decisions are based solely on the academic merit of the work and its relevance to the journal's scope, without regard to authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
-
Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and not disclose any information about submissions to anyone other than corresponding authors, reviewers, and the publisher.
-
Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest and should avoid making decisions on papers where they have personal, professional, or financial relationships with any authors.
-
Peer Review Process: Editors ensure that a robust, fair, and timely double-blind peer review process is conducted for all scholarly submissions.
Handling of Misconduct
-
Investigation: Editors will investigate promptly and thoroughly any allegations of ethical misconduct regarding submitted or published manuscripts.
-
Proof Requirement: Editors require convincing evidence before making decisions regarding misconduct allegations.
-
Corrective Actions: When ethical concerns are identified, editors will pursue appropriate corrective actions, including publication of corrections, retractions, or apologies as needed.
Authors' Responsibilities
Reporting Standards
-
Originality: Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. Any text, data, or ideas borrowed from others must be properly cited and credited.
-
Multiple Publications: Authors should not submit manuscripts describing essentially the same research to more than one journal concurrently.
-
Data Access: Authors may be required to provide raw data in connection with manuscripts for editorial review and must be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.
Authorship
-
Credit Attribution: All listed authors must have made significant contributions to the research and approved the final version of the manuscript.
-
Corresponding Author Responsibility: The corresponding author ensures that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
-
Acknowledgement of Sources: Authors must properly acknowledge the work of others and cite influential publications that determined the nature of the reported work.
-
Conflict Disclosure: All authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
Fundamental Errors
-
Error Notification: When authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their own published work, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
-
Peer Review Assistance: Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communications with authors, may assist authors in improving their papers.
-
Timeliness: Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or know that timely review is impossible should immediately notify the editors.
Standards of Objectivity
-
Objective Assessment: Reviews should be conducted objectively, with no personal criticism of the author.
-
Supporting Arguments: Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments and references as necessary.
Confidentiality
-
Information Protection: Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
Alertness to Ethical Issues
-
Similarity Identification: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and alert editors to any substantial similarity between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper.
