CATEGORICAL SITUATION OF CAUSATIVITY EXEMPLIFIED BY THE RUSSIAN VERB ТРЕВОЖИТЬ

Abstract

The article is written within the framework of functional grammar and is devoted to the study of the mechanisms of inter-categorial interaction using the example of the emotive causative тревожить. The aim of the work is to construct a model of the interaction of functional-semantic categories (FSCs) actualized in contexts with this verb. Based on the analysis of data from the Russian National Corpus, it is proven that the basic categorical situation represented by the verb тревожить constitutes an inter-categorial inclusion of causativity and emotivity. Furthermore, the study reveals inter-categorial crossing – the interaction of the core inclusive pair with other functional sematic categories. In contexts with the verb «тревожить», the categories of intensity, iterativity, temporality, instrumentality, locality, and taxis are regularly actualized, which is expressed through specific lexical and grammatical markers. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the detailed description of the functioning of the verb «тревожить» as a complex center of a categorical situation, as well as in the identification of its zones of interaction with a wide range of semantic categories. Particular attention is paid to cases of implicit causativity and autocausation, which broaden the understanding of the semantics of this verb.
